Data Migration Course

Part Time | 3 Weeks

Data migration is the process of extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) the data from the sources/storage systems to other destinations/storage systems. We can change the type of storage systems and format of the data. We can migrate data from on-premises to on-premises, from on-premises to cloud, from cloud to cloud, from cloud to on-premises, or hybrid infrastructure.

Course Overview

Data migration course is for industry professionals targeting to move their on-prem DB’s to AWS. The course is mainly based on the DMS (Data Migration Service) of AWS.

In recent years, companies have been transitioning to the cloud at great speed. There are many advantages of transitioning to the cloud and companies want to take advantage of the cloud. In this context, the transition from on-premises to cloud is one of the most important issues of the last period.

Nowadays, moving the data from on-premises to the cloud is very popular. The most important benefits of data migration from on-premises to cloud are;

  • Legacy systems are replaced by modern ones
  • Reduces storage costs
  • Increases efficiency
  • Increases globality
  • Scalability
  • Agility
  • Reliability
  • Availability
  • Enhances security
  • Recovery, backup, and disaster recovery solutions
  • Improve management and monitoring
  • Less maintenance and Maximum uptime.

At the end of this course, you will easily migrate your database from on-premises to cloud, from cloud to on-premises or hybrid infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Live in-class sessions will be held through zoom.
In Clarusway, we have a comprehensive approach for students to learn smoothly. We have a proprietary LMS (Learning Management System) which is an all-in-one online platform. We designed our LMS in line with the learning pyramid theory that allows you to start learning before in-class by pre-class activities, reinforce learning after class by post-class assignments, and watch the recordings of in-class sessions whenever you want. You will have access to LMS content until three months after the course. You can ask questions to instructors during in-class sessions on a dedicated Slack channel. Similarly, there is a dedicated Q&A channel where you can send your questions 24/7 to be answered as soon as possible.

Organizations migrate data for a variety of reasons. For example, they may require a complete system overhaul, database upgrades, the establishment of a new data warehouse, or the merging of new data through an acquisition or another source. Data migration is also required when a new system is deployed alongside current apps.
The most common data migration tools are:
  • IRI NextForm
  • Xplenty
  • DBConvert Studio
  • AWS Data Migration
  • Informix (IBM)
  • Rsync
  • EMC Rainfinity
  • Configero Data Loader
  • Brocade’s DMM (Data Migration Manager)
  • HDS Universal Replicator
  • Informatica Cloud Data Wizard
  • Apex Data Loader
  • Talend Open Studio
  • Rocket Data Migration

The types of data migration are:
  • Storage Migration
  • Database Migration
  • Application Migration
  • Business Process Migration
AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS) is a cloud-based service that simplifies the process of migrating relational databases, data warehouses, NoSQL databases, and others. AWS DMS enables you to transfer data into the AWS Cloud or between cloud and on-premises configurations.
ETL stands for Extract, Transform, and Load, which is a cycle used to collect data from various sources, and transform it according to organization requirements.
You must create a thorough validation and testing plan to decrease risk and confirm that the data has been moved and converted. Testing data migration processes include both data-level and application-level validation. Data-level validation testing: This testing ensures data has been transferred correctly from several databases to a central database. Data will be validated at three stages during the test: Row Counts, Data Verification, and Entitlement Verification. Application-level validation testing: A software tester validates the performance of a demo migration application that was moved from an old legacy system to the new system during application-level validation testing. The testing guarantees the migrated app runs smoothly with the new DB by performing several validations.
